The first two seasons of The Crownstarred Claire Foy as Elizabeth II, Vanessa Kirby as Margaret, and Matt Smith as Prince Philip. However, showrunner Peter Morgan always planned to recast about every two seasons, to keep up with the characters as they aged.
Season 3 promises to be a big one for Margaret. Robert Lacey, the show's history consultant, has said that the next run of episodes will take place in the 1970s – which means that, among other things, it'll chronicle "the breakup of this extraordinary marriage between Margaret and Snowdon."
The Crownwon't be Bonham Carter's first time joining the royal family onscreen. She previously played The Queen Mother – wife to George VI and mother to Elizabeth II and Margaret – in 2010's The King's Speech.
(Coincidentally, Colman has also played the Queen Mother, in 2012's Hyde Park on Hudson.)
Now all we need is a new Prince Philip and a release date for Season 3. Bring it on, Netflix.
