Apple revealed iOS 17at its 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference on Dear Utol (2025): WEEK 5 HIGHLIGHTS Episode 29Monday, detailing updates such as its new Check-In safety featureand Live Voicemail transcription.
However, not all iPhones will be able to take advantage of these new functions. Some of Apple's older phones are being left out of the great iOS 17 update, most likely because newer, more robust software requires newer, more robust hardware to run it.

But if you're still clinging to the same device you've had since before 2018, it's worth checking whether you're able to update it to iOS 17.

If you haven't thought about your iPhone's model since you bought it, it's easy enough to check. Simply open "Settings," tap "General," then tap "About" to see your phone's Model Name and which version of iOS it's currently running.
