At long last, Xbox-owning Spotify users can stream the service's music directly to their consoles. The new app drops on Tuesday, Aug. 8, in 34 markets around the world.
SEE ALSO: Xbox One's dashboard is about to change in a major wayWe haven't been able to test the app out yet, but if it's anything like the PlayStation 4 app that launched in March 2015, you'll be able to access the full library of Spotify music and playlists to have running behind whatever else you're doing on the console.
To celebrate the occasion, Spotify is also launching a new curated playlist from Microsoft exec Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson. You can find that here.
You can control the app on your console, but it's much easier to pair your Xbox with your smart device app or Spotify Connect on your PC. Either of those options allows you to control your music without ditching out of whatever game you're playing.
As an added bonus: an Xbox Live Gold subscription is not required to use the console app, nor is a Spotify subscription. Free and paid users alike can take advantage of the app; all you need is an account with the service.
That's pretty much the whole deal. Spotify and Xbox One are both known quantities, so this is largely a case of "two great tastes taste great together (finally)." You can find more info about the new app on Spotify's website here and here.
