Xiaohongshu,Watch Scandal Sin in the City (2001) a Chinese Instagram-like social media platform, has announced the consolidation of its commercial, community, and e-commerce algorithm departments into a new division called the Application Algorithm Department, Chinese media outlet Leiphone reported Tuesday. The department will be headed by Xia Hou, the current head of Xiaohongshu’s community technology department, who will report to the company’s senior vice president of technology, Wang Xiaobo. Xia Hou, who joined Xiaohongshu with a focus on community algorithms, was later appointed head of the community technology department. He has contributed to community algorithms, search integration, and ecosystem governance, laying the groundwork for his new role. This restructuring follows a company-wide organizational change announced in August, which included the elimination of the R-level position and a shift toward an appointment-based leadership structure. Earlier this year, Xiaohongshu reported a major milestone, surpassing $1 billion in sales for the first time during the first quarter, with a net profit of $200 million. [Leiphone, in Chinese]
