Marshmello set up shop on a virtual stage set up inside the game on Saturday. He was there to perform, and that's exactly what he did. The proof is all over social media.
Fortnitemaker Epic Games treated the whole thing like an actual, real world event. Construction work on the stage began earlier in the week, as players discovered when they ventured into the Pleasant Park section of the game's map and visited the football field found there.

There isn't any kind of playcomponent here. The most popular side of Fortniteis its "battle royale" mode, a competitive game in which players fight across the game's sprawling map to be the last person or team standing.

Staging a free concert is a new twist in the game's life, though. There were in-game challenges and cosmetic items tied to it, but it looks like Marshmello's performance was just meant to be a treat for fans.
