Sex and The Intern - A Summer of Lustthe Citystar Cynthia Nixon announced her candidacy for New York governor today, in a historic milestone for gays who love TV and hate current governor Andrew Cuomo.
Rumors of the actress' run had been circulating for weeks. Then, Nixon formally announced her candidacy with a tear-jerker of a campaign ad on Twitter, emphasizing the actress' progressive politics and long history in New York State.

And yet. Before you get all "celebrities should stay out of politics" on me, it's worth noting that Nixon has been actively involved in education reform and LGBTQ advocacy for over 10 years. Nixon previously served as a spokeswoman for Alliance for Quality Education, an advocacy group for education reform.

Nixon has been working closely recently with Bill Hyers and Rebecca Katz, both progressives and advisors to New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio. DeBlasio and Cuomo have been at odds since DeBlasio took office, for Democratic insidery bro-ey reasons most New Yorkers rightfully DGAF about.
Political analysts believe that Cuomo has the clear operational and fundraising advantage, but who cares? Miracles do happen, and it'll be so nice to see the governor squirm, especially when Nixon can boast lines like this one:
"Unlike Governor Cuomo, Cynthia Nixon rides the subway every day," it says on Nixon's website.
New Yorkers or not, it's time all of us knew our Miranda rights (sorry, had to do one pun, too good, won't do it again).
