It's one thing to take pride in your party's candidate winning an election,Film noir Archives but it's another to be an insufferably sore winner.
On Tuesday, after Republican Marsha Blackburn won Tennessee's Senate race over Democratic candidate and former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen, fans of Blackburn not only celebrated the victory, but mocked singer Taylor Swift, too. Just a few weeks before the election, the artist publicly endorsed Bredesen for office.

There were even reports speculating that Swift's endorsement might have inspired a surge in voter registration, so when Bredesen lost the race by a significant amount, fired up conservatives like Laura Ingraham, Joe Walsh, Candace Owens, and more were quick to mock the 28-year-old.
Many tweeted the results of the race directly at the singer, and some even used her own lyrics against her and discussed her relationship history.

While celebrity endorsements do have the potential increase excitement around races and possibly even persuade people to vote for certain candidates, there isn't much known about the direct impact (if any) that celebrity support has on election results. People will likely vote for the candidate they favor, regardless of which celebrities back them. This doesn't mean celebrities should remain silent when it comes to sharing their political beliefs.
And no matter the election results, the winning party always has the option to rise above petty gloating and targeted mocking of a single individual's endorsement.
