Amazon received 238 proposals from cities desperate to981 Archiveshome to the tech giant's next headquarters. But how many actually have a shot?
According to one gambling site, Atlanta leads the pack. The Georgia capital has 2-1 odds to win Amazon's second headquarters on the Irish gambling site Paddy Power. Props to CNN for catching it.
Two-to-one odds don't necessarily mean too much for Amazon's final verdict, but it's still a major lead against some of the other contenders. Philadelphia faces 7-1 odds; Boston is looking at 8-1 odds; and Miami has 12-1 odds. Those are a lot better than some of the longshot contenders: 20-1 for Denver, 20-1 for Los Angeles, and 30-1 for Sacramento.
A lot of these cities have tried out gimmicks to woo Amazon. Tuscon, Arizona sent a giant cactus to Amazon's first headquarters in Seattle, and Birmingham, Alabama installed art installations of giant Amazon packages throughout the city. Newark, New Jersey offered up $7 billion in tax incentives.
But those efforts don't help the gambling odds.
Amazon could even end up in Melbourne, Australia—at 100-1 odds.
